UBC Mathematics: MathNet FAQ [Disk Encryption HowTo]
UBC Mathematics: MathNet FAQ [Disk Encryption HowTo]
Question: How do I encrypt my MacOSX/Windows/Linux machine to be compliant with privacy regulations?
Author: UBC Computer Science
Date: 2017-01-18
Equipment purchased using University funds or grants are now required
to have whole disk encryption (WDE) installed to safeguard against
disclosure of personal and private information through loss or theft.
Please refer to the most recent document
Faculty of Science Policy on Laptop Encryption
If your laptop is qualified to be excluded from this policy, please inform
the IT staff.
For recent versions of Windows or MacOSX, this can be done by using
the BitLocker (Windows) or Filevault (MacOSX) facility built into the
operating system.
Please refer to the following document, kindly supplied by the UBC
Computer Science Department, for instructions on how to deploy WDE on
your Windows or MacOSX systems.

For Linux, there are various HowTo's on how to install WDE encryption.
However, unless you already have WDE installed, the processes to encrypt
the entire drive requires a rebuild of the system. For a general
overview, please read
