UBC Mathematics: MathNet FAQ [Email Lists]
Question: How do I set up a mailing list?
Author: Joseph Tam
Date: 2025-09-10
For small lists, it may be easier to make a mail reader address book entry with all the
recipients in this list.
The IT staff can also create an Email alias that forwards to one or more Email addresses;
this is handy for role addresses with multiple people that supports a role, and that doesn't
change often.
For Email lists that require frequent updates, the IT staff can set create a managed
mailing list. This mailing list service allows
- list owners to update their list via Email or web interface.
New members can be added, existing members removed or their
addresses updated. The current list can also be reported.
- delegation to multiple managers.
- access control:
- open or moderated submission policy;
- open, closed, moderated (i.e. with approval) subscription
policy.
- size limits on submissions.
- rudimentary filtering
- privacy protection of members: other members are not disclosed in
Email headers.
