About Archimedes Talks

Archimedes Talks is a speaker series aimed at talented high school students in Vancouver interested in mathematics and engineering. Our goal is to provide promising students with opportunities to explore different aspects of math and applied science in an engaging environment.

Once a month during the semester, students come to the University of British Columbia's main Vancouver campus. Every session includes two expert speakers and lunch.

Archimedes Talks is run by Profs. Seckin Demirbas and Elyse Yeager from the UBC math department. Interested students and teachers should visit the "apply" section for more information.

Origins

Archimedes Talks is modeled after the popular speaker series A Taste of Pi. A Taste of Pi was started and administered by Dr. Malgorzata Dubiel and Dr. Veselin Jungic of SFU. We are grateful to them for their vision and hard work, as well as their guidance and advice in setting up Archimedes Talks.
